Concepts and terminology

This page explains some concepts/terminology used by GLights

Groups

Every panel can control multiple sets of lights. That set is called a group. By default, each panel is connected to two groups, A and B. You can toggle each group on and off on the panel. You can add more groups by adding more folders named C, D and so on (explained in more detail here). Currently each group can be controlled by only one panel. We plan to add support for "master" panels in a future update.

Numbered groups

This can be somewhat confusing, but there are two types of groups. Each light in a group has a name like Fix1. The 1 here indicates that it's part of the first numbered group. Cues and other functions use numbered groups, so it's important to name your lights correctly. You can have infinite numbered groups.

Follow points

Follow points are parts (or ObjectValues pointing to parts) in the FollowPoints folder. Some light types can follow them.

Actions

Actions are sets of simpler instructions. For example, a flash is an action, because it consists of turning the lights on and fading them off.

Cues

Cues are basically actions that run forever until they're disabled.
